Most app "rankings" online are affiliate funnels: the site earns a commission when you sign up, so the highest payer floats to the top. We do not work that way, and this page explains exactly how we do.
We take no affiliate commissions
The links to apps on this site — like "Visit Welling" on a review — are plain links. We earn nothing when you click them or sign up. They carry rel="nofollow" and pass us no money or referral credit.
We accept no sponsored placements
No developer can pay for a higher ranking, a better score, a "featured" badge, or favourable wording. We have turned down these offers, and we always will. Our rankings are determined solely by our tested rubric.
We buy what we test
We purchase every app and every paid subscription ourselves. We do not accept free "press" accounts that could come with strings attached, because the version we test should be the version you would pay for.
How we are funded
Food Tracking Lab is reader-supported. If that ever changes, this page will change with it — transparently and before any new arrangement affects a single score.
What developers can and cannot do
Developers are welcome to submit corrections of fact — a wrong price, a missing feature, a changed policy. They cannot preview scores, request edits to our conclusions, or buy placement. Facts we will fix; verdicts we will not sell.
