Marcus Bell spent eight years as a mobile software engineer before turning his attention to the apps themselves. He holds an MSc in computer science and treats every tracker the way he used to treat his own products: with a stopwatch, a test matrix and a deep suspicion of marketing claims.
He designed Food Tracking Lab’s 20-task logging battery, the photo-recognition plate tests and the data-visualization scoring grid. If a feature ships in a food tracking app, Marcus has timed it, tried to break it and screenshotted the result on both iOS and Android.
Marcus is our resident skeptic of “AI-powered” labels. He cares less about what an app promises and more about how it behaves at 9pm on a Tuesday when you just want to log a takeaway and move on.
